Energy management for variable frequency drives

Cerus Industrial, Inc. has enhanced their P-Series line of variable frequency drives (VFDs) with an Energy Management Bypass option (EMB). The new option assures uninterruptible operation of customers’ HVAC systems, even if the drive is taken out of the loop for some reason, including reprogramming or maintenance operations.


Cerus’ EMB architecture reflects an all new approach to bypass design. With integrated real time ANSI grade power metering and BACnet communications the EMB accurately measures consumption in both VFD and Bypass mode to +/- 1%. The EMB also provides all the advanced motor protection in bypass mode that would typically only be available through the VFD (OV/UV, ground fault, phase loss, phase reversal, and belt loss protection).

Design program for drive components

Lenze Americas' Easy Explorer design program is for fast selection of drive components early in the design phase of a new machine. The free web-based Easy Explorer tool analyzes basic user-entered data and automatically determines optimal inverter and geared motor combinations for user consideration.


An entry ramp tool for early and effective planning, the Easy Explorer guides users through intuitive data entry screens, where they specify the desired movement type (i.e., conveying, lifting, rotating) and other basic information, such as desired speed and mass to be moved. The tool calculates inverter-geared motor specifications and uses intelligent search algorithms to generate up to four alternative solutions from the Lenze product portfolio. The Easy Explorer will generate options for a range of common drive applications, including direct, decentralized, controlled and dynamic drives.


The Easy Explorer solution automatically factors in a sufficient reserve for safe implementation of the machine drive task. This approach provides users with an overview of potential drive solutions without searching technical documentation and catalogs or performing manual calculations. In addition to specifying part type numbers and rated data, the Easy Explorer provides CAD and ePLAN data, which can be used to request a quote or access additional information in the Lenze Drive Solution Catalog (DSC).

Ratings extended for power drives

 Rockwell Automation has extended the ratings of its Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 755 AC drives to 1500 kW/2,000 hp. The high-power drive builds on the application flexibility and common user experience of the PowerFlex 750-Series, providing industries with a new option for advanced power control.

The PowerFlex 755 drive is well suited for a wide variety of applications ranging from simple variable speed and variable torque control to the most demanding systems requiring constant torque control. Target applications include fans, pumps, mixers, compressors, conveyors and extruders, as well as applications for the oil and gas, tire and rubber, refining, metals and mining industries.


The latest frame extension delivers the enhanced control capabilities of earlier high-power models, including features, such as 400/480/600/690 volt ratings and N-1 technology. With N-1 technology, users can configure the PowerFlex 755 high-power drive to utilize one, two or all three of its power structures. This gives the redundancy and advanced control needed to effectively manage load changes, protect equipment, and keep the drive up and running in the event of a power failure.


The power-range extension is one of several enhancements to the PowerFlex 755 drive designed to provide application flexibility. Additional features and benefits available include the following floor-mount drives and dual-port EtherNet/IP option module.

CNCs offer predictive, preventive maintenance tools for motors

Fanuc FA America's Series 30i/31i/32i-Model B CNCs offer new predictive and preventive maintenance tools for motors and fans. This allows maintenance staff to pre-plan servicing of a machine during scheduled downtime rather than when a machine has failed.


Fanuc amplifiers address predictive motor failures by checking the resistance of the windings. The greatest cause of servo motor failure is coolant infiltration into the motor. Coolant works its way into the machining process and deteriorates the windings until a short circuit occurs. Fanuc's amplifiers are now able to record the winding resistance and predict when the motor will fail. This allows maintenance personnel to order a motor in advance and change the motor when it is convenient for them, not at an inconvenient time when the machine is down.


The ability to monitor the speed of each fan in the amplifier and the CNC can prevent a failure. On the CNC and servo amplifiers that are contained within the magnetics cabinet, heat is the largest cause of failure. Fanuc uses cooling fans to cool electronic components. A failure of the cooling fan can cause a failure of the CNC. By monitoring the speed of each fan that is in the CNC and amplifier, Fanuc is able to judge when the fan will fail enabling maintenance personnel to do maintenance at their convenience.

Digital microstepping drive prevents motor position errors

AutomationDirect’s SureStep line of motion control products now includes a digital stepper drive. The standard stepper drive operates with high-speed pulse input signals (Step and Direction, or jumper-selectable CW/CCW step) and has a selectable resolution range of 200 to 20,000 steps per revolution. Additional features include a switch-selectable automatic self test, digital filters to prevent position error from electrical noise on command signals, and optically isolated I/O. The unit’s switch-selectable microstep emulation feature provides smoother, more reliable motion in full and half-step modes. Operated with a 24 to 65 V dc power supply, this microstepping drive has a running output current of 0.5 to 7.5 Amps.


The SureStep regeneration clamp has a built-in 50W braking resistor and features a mounted-on heat sink, 24-80 V dc voltage range, and 6-pin screw terminal block. LED indicators show when power supply voltage is present and when the clamp is operating. External power is connected internally to an “Input Diode” which protects the power supply from high regeneration voltages and the system from connecting the power supply in reverse.

Automatic transfer switches

GE (NYSE: GE) announced that its Zenith Controls ZT30 UL 1008 listed 30-cycle automatic transfer switch (ATS) are designed to help maximize system availability in critical facilities, such as hospitals or data centers, the ZT30 helps to isolate a fault condition to restrict outages to the equipment affected and maintain power to critical equipment in the rest of the facility.


The ZT30 also has a Quick Make/Quick Break design that enables manual operation with the door closed, minimizing the operator’s exposure to arc flash. A patented shutter door also is available which, when the ATS portion of a bypass switch is being tested or maintained, covers the live bus bars forming a barrier that protects maintenance personnel.


The ZT30 includes additional features such as an interchangeable source cable termination, 100 percent top or bottom cable entry and simple field configurable voltage selection that enable contractors to realize faster and easier installation. These customization capabilities enable design-consulting firms to create optimum system architecture plans.

Yaskawa commemorates first U.S.-manufactured MV1000 medium-voltage drives

Yaskawa Electric Corp. and Yaskawa America Inc. celebrated the start of U.S. manufacturing for the Yaskawa MV1000 in a ceremony at the Yaskawa America Oak Creek, Wis., plant on Nov. 30. Yaskawa offered the medium-voltage drive (for motors up to 5000 hp) earlier this year, but ordering and shipping from Japan takes about 6 months. That’s expected to be reduced to 8 weeks or less after more than $3 million is invested by 2014 for new manufacturing and testing areas in the 30,000-sq-ft plant. By late 2013, models serving up to 5,000 hp are expected to be available, including UL and CSA listings.

John Merrison, Yaskawa senior product marketing manager, said the Yaskawa MV1000 medium-voltage drive protects the connected motor and main from harmonics, which extends motor life and avoids electric utility penalty charges, and it saves energy, he said.Yaskawa MV1000 is said to be the smallest 1000 hp drive available, with 30%-60% smaller volume compared to the last generation of Yaskawa product. It also has the longest mean time between failures (MTBF) at 200,000 hours, a number expected to increase, said those involved. Yaskawa Smart Harmonics Technology reduces input harmonics, meeting IEEE519-1992 and eliminating the need for other filters. Total harmonic distortion (THD) is less than 2.8%. Energy savings for customers derive from 97% or better power conversion efficiency at rated load and by motor speed control, particularly on variable torque loads such as fans, blowers, and pumps.


Employees, customers, and guests were invited to the plant for a Kagami-Biraki sake ceremony commemorating the new beginning. They celebrated next to the first MV1000 units made there, two of which were ready to ship to a pipe manufacturing customer in Ohio. Another will remain at the Oak Creek plant for demonstration, display, and continued testing.


Yaskawa Oak Creek now employs 115 and will augment engineering, application support, manufacturing, and testing as needed, the company said.

The MV1000 drive uses open-loop vector control, meaning it is highly resistant to load fluctuations, enabling stable continuous operation without using an encoder. High-performance vector control can be used with synchronous motors as well as induction motors. The available user interface is the same used with Yaskawa 1000-Series low-voltage drives, for easy setting and operation. The Yaskawa DriveWizard Plus MV helps with setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting. A USB copy device aids with the transfer of parameters from drive to drive. Communications options include RS485 (Modbus), DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, and Ethernet. The drives are available at2.4 kV power lines (up to 2750 hp) or 4.16 kV (up to 5000 hp). Multiple induction motors can be run with one drive, reducing overall system size. Other options, including input integral input switchgear and engineered bypasses, will also be available.

Yaskawa developed software that provides quality checks and error-proofing during assembly, ensuring personnel choose the correct parts and the correct tools at the right time during assembly, said David Thurwanger, manager, operations, Oak Creek plant.

Integrated motion servo drive with EtherNet/IP connectivity

 Rockwell Automation's Allen-Bradley Kinetix 5500 servo drive, Kinetix VP low-inertia (VPL) servo motor, and single-cable technology as an integrated motion solution on EtherNet/IP that is more compact, easier to use and simplifies system wiring.

The Kinetix 5500 servo drive joins the Kinetix 350 and Kinetix 6500 drives to provide users with more options to match motion control needs. Integrated motion control on EtherNet/IP eliminates the need for a dedicated motion network, reducing cabling by up to 60% and removing the need to create gateways to get information to or from secluded networks. Additionally, the Kinetix VPL motors new winding technology and DSL encoder, connected with the smart-cable technology, allows power transmission and feedback communication to and from the Kinetix 5500 drive to take place on one cable. This further simplifies application design and limits points-of-failure for improved reliability and uncomplicated maintenance.


The Kinetix 5500 and Kinetix VP drive-motor system does not require discrete power rail or additional accessories, so machines can be scaled up as needed. The Kinetix 5500 drive uses an external common ac/dc bus connection system. Motor control centers add Ethernet for remote monitoring

Furthermore, the Ethernet connection allows Centerline MCC users to access information remotely. This lets personnel safely monitor, troubleshoot and diagnose the MCC without exposing them to potentially dangerous conditions and power equipment. With IntelliCenter Integration Assistant, users can integrate their IntelliCenter Motor Control Centers (MCCs) into their Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 programming software. This feature reduces programming time by automatically adding the Allen-Bradley Centerline MCC devices to the RSLogix 5000 I/O tree. In addition, Integration Assistant also takes advantage of existing premier integration features to automatically create controller tags and IP address configuration in RSLogix 5000 software, reducing errors and the time it takes to configure the intelligent devices.

Monitoring CNCs via tablet-type devices

This latest advancement in remote monitoring greatly enhances the maintainability and production capabilities of the Fanuc CNC.


The Series 30i/31i/32i-Model B CNC, is now capable of acting as a web server. It allows display of CNC screens on any device on a network. This ability allows maintenance or production personnel on the shop floor to monitor all CNC equipment from across the shop in one location and on one device. 


For advanced smooth and accurate simultaneous 5-axis high-speed machining, Fanuc's 30i-B/31i-B5 CNCs use the High-Speed Smooth TCP with new fairing technology. This reduces cycle times while improving part accuracy and quality. In addition, Fanuc Series 30i-Model B CNCs (this includes 30i-B, 31i-B, 31i-B5, 32i-B & 35i-B) offer a newly enhanced high-speed and large capacity, multi-path PMC offering large scale sequence control with a maximum of 5 concurrent independent ladders. Integrated CNC controller with HMI functions

The M700VS is a stand-alone, compact, integrated controller with a built-in display screen for HMI functions, while the M700VW model operates on a Microsoft Windows platform for PC-based control. The M700V CNC comes in two models and both feature a high-speed servo network.


Other advances in the M700V Series over its predecessor include improvements to the basic CNC functions, graphic performance and built-in PLC; 66% reduction in power consumption on the M700VS model; and a higher level of custom functions on the Microsoft Windows XPe-based M700VW.

Large touchscreen HMI offers full PLC capability

Unitronics V1210The Vision1210 controller with integral HMI extends the size and capabilities of integrated units with a larger-than-ever 12.1 in., 65 K color-touchscreen. Unitronics says this controller is a perfect fit for the food industry since its IP66 rating protects it wherever spray and wipe down applications apply. A wide variety of on board I/O options can be added by simply snapping a module onto the back of the PLC.


With additional expansion modules allowing up to 1,000  I/O, these configurations include digital and analog inputs and outputs, high-speed I/O, PT100/thermocouple capabilities, and weight measurement. They can be mounted locally or remotely, up to 1,000 m from the controller. This power-PLC is equipped with a built-in USB programming port, recipe capabilities, micro SD card memory storage for data logging and back up, and complete PLC cloning.


Systems integrators and end users can now rely on a single device since the Vision1210 can support 24 auto-tuned PID loops to control temperature, level, and pressure, while the 16-bit, 12.1 in., 800 x 600 pixel SVGA color touch screen displays data, color trend graphs, and attention-grabbing alarm screens. Display options are almost endless, with more than 1,024 user-designed screens, and up to 500 images per application. Internal memory holds 2 MB of application logic, plus 1 MB for fonts and 32 MB for images.


Communication options include TCP/IP Ethernet, cellular, and industrial protocols such as Modbus, DF1 slave, J1939, CANopen, and more. In addition, the system can be taught to communicate via almost any device-based protocol. The controller is also capable of time based and immediate interrupts, making it a natural for rapid response applications such as packaging machines.

The starters accept dry voltage inputs (wide range 12 V ac-250 V ac) for activation by control systems without interposing relays. Other control options include auto run, fireman’s override, fault, proof of flow (detects loss of load), and SmartStart predictive calibration (fault alarm). Integrated LED pilot lights and Hand/Off/Auto keypad are standard, simplifying unit setup and verification.


A single model accepts 208-600 V ac and motor loads up to 40 A, eliminating discrete thermal overloads and numerous contactor coil voltages typically required with other motor starters. The broad operating ranges enable distributors to eliminate thousands of dollars on unnecessary stock and mis-sizing issues. 


Upon motor start-up, the electronic Smartstart overload allows the starter to look for a safe operating range based on motor starting current. If the starter isn’t calibrated within that range, an alarm is activated and the starter contactor is opened. This feature is meant to protect against operators increasing the overload to overcome motor jams or other impedances and to provide base line protection should the starter not be calibrated. The BAS with Smartstart also protects against locked rotor, stall, and other undesirable starting conditions.

Installing GE’s MCS helps microgrid operators manage the storage and dispatching of energy resources so that the appropriate resources can be used when it’s most economical. Visual pushbutton configurator

Newark element14 launched their visual product configurator, which is designed to help engineers more easily find and purchase the complete line of Schneider Electric 22mm pushbuttons, pilot lights and selector switch assemblies, including contact blocks and legend plate accessories. 


Engineers can now visually select the right operator type from the configurator’s guide, or upload their own parts list. In either case, the tool will then display all associated parts of the assembly, which can be sent directly to a shopping cart or saved as a PDF file. This collaborative configuration is designed to help engineers streamline their operations and save time.

The starters accept dry voltage inputs (wide range 12 V ac-250 V ac) for activation by control systems without interposing relays. Other control options include auto run, fireman’s override, fault, proof of flow (detects loss of load), and SmartStart predictive calibration (fault alarm). Integrated LED pilot lights and Hand/Off/Auto keypad are standard, simplifying unit setup and verification.


A single model accepts 208-600 V ac and motor loads up to 40 A, eliminating discrete thermal overloads and numerous contactor coil voltages typically required with other motor starters. The broad operating ranges enable distributors to eliminate thousands of dollars on unnecessary stock and mis-sizing issues. 


Upon motor start-up, the electronic Smartstart overload allows the starter to look for a safe operating range based on motor starting current. If the starter isn’t calibrated within that range, an alarm is activated and the starter contactor is opened. This feature is meant to protect against operators increasing the overload to overcome motor jams or other impedances and to provide base line protection should the starter not be calibrated. The BAS with Smartstart also protects against locked rotor, stall, and other undesirable starting conditions.

EC: IndraControl L85 CNC Controller with Multi-core Processor

The IndraControl L85 is a CNC controller with multi-core processer that establishes new levels of sophistication, performance and processing power for advanced multi-axes CNC applications. This is a Control Engineering 2013 Engineers' Choice finalist.Enhancing productivity while reducing energy consumption, two key CNC operators requirements fully served by the advanced IndraControl L85 CNC controller. The IndraControl L85 is equipped with 16 MB SRAM and its multi-core processor has two 1.2 GHz CPU. Depending on the specific system configuration, Sercos III, Profibus, Profinet, or EtherNet/IP can be configured to exchange data on the sensor-actuator level. Drive level communication is via Sercos III interface with Ethernet; so operators can control electrical and hydraulic motion with I/O and pneumatics, tightly synchronized with the interpolation update rate on a single bus.


The IndraMotion MTX platform also offers an optional energy monitoring module created to take advantage of the IndraControl L85's power. Operators can document the energy consumption of drive axes or ancillary units, even measure energy consumption per work piece.

Large touchscreen HMI offers full PLC capability

 

Unitronics V1210The Vision1210 controller with integral HMI extends the size and capabilities of integrated units with a larger-than-ever 12.1 in., 65 K color-touchscreen. Unitronics says this controller is a perfect fit for the food industry since its IP66 rating protects it wherever spray and wipe down applications apply. A wide variety of on board I/O options can be added by simply snapping a module onto the back of the PLC.


With additional expansion modules allowing up to 1,000  I/O, these configurations include digital and analog inputs and outputs, high-speed I/O, PT100/thermocouple capabilities, and weight measurement. They can be mounted locally or remotely, up to 1,000 m from the controller. This power-PLC is equipped with a built-in USB programming port, recipe capabilities, micro SD card memory storage for data logging and back up, and complete PLC cloning.

Using a Motorola Solutions MC9190-Z Handheld RFID Reader six boxes containing 202 items (see photo) were scanned. It took several minutes with barcodes and seconds with RFID labels. RFID use in manufacturing is increasing rapidly to more effectively track materials, tools, finished products, and even workers in hazardous areas, Motorola noted.


Also demonstrated was the Motorola Solutions ET1 Enterprise Tablet Computer (not shown). It can display screens from the Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus operator interface terminals from Rockwell Automation. The ET1 mobile computer also runs applications on the Google Android platform. Protective case, interchangeable batteries, and holster are available, along with snap-on code reader options, making this tablet computer a more rugged option to use across an enterprise than commercially available tablet computers, the company said.

Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority reaches for sustainability goals

Invensys Operations Management, a global provider of technology systems, software solutions, and consulting services for manufacturing and infrastructure operations, has completed a major control system and technology upgrade at 12 Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority sites. With 5,839 MW of generating capacity, PREPA is one of the largest public utilities in the U.S. and the sole provider of electricity for 1.5 million customers in Puerto Rico.


Under the terms of an agreement signed in 2010, Invensys supplied its Foxboro I/A Series distributed control system, including its new Foxboro Control Software solution, to help PREPA diversify its production capabilities as it begins to add renewable energy to its power mix. Invensys also provided field service and start-up support, as well as design, testing and implementation services, including access to its Power Center of Excellence in Foxboro, Mass.


PREPA’s total production capacity is expected to grow to 6,719 MW by 2014. As a result, it has undertaken a multi-phase initiative to expand gas firing at all its generating plants, which will reduce air emissions, drive down the costs of other fossil fuels, and spur wider economic benefits for the island. Additionally, in order to meet new U.S. EPA hazardous air pollutant criteria, Puerto Rico’s Energy Diversification Law states that 12% of PREPA’s total output will have to come from renewable sources by 2015. The number increases to 15% by 2020 and to 20% by 2035. PREPA’s current modernization initiative will provide the company with an automation infrastructure that will make it much easier to integrate renewable fuels into its power production line.


“We recently initiated a long-term strategy to expand the use of natural gas and renewable fuels at our generating plants, which required modern systems and technology,” said Jose Mulero, chief engineer, PREPA. “Invensys Operations Management’s Foxboro I/A Series control technology, particularly its Foxboro Control Software, gives us the flexibility we needed to complete dual fuel conversion at all our targeted units, and we can do it sooner and with fewer costs. Automatic transfer switches

Courtesy: GEGE (NYSE: GE) announced that its Zenith Controls ZT30 UL 1008 listed 30-cycle automatic transfer switch (ATS) are designed to help maximize system availability in critical facilities, such as hospitals or data centers, the ZT30 helps to isolate a fault condition to restrict outages to the equipment affected and maintain power to critical equipment in the rest of the facility. 


The ZT30 also has a Quick Make/Quick Break design that enables manual operation with the door closed, minimizing the operator’s exposure to arc flash. A patented shutter door also is available which, when the ATS portion of a bypass switch is being tested or maintained, covers the live bus bars forming a barrier that protects maintenance personnel.


The ZT30 includes additional features such as an interchangeable source cable termination, 100 percent top or bottom cable entry and simple field configurable voltage selection that enable contractors to realize faster and easier installation. Photoelectric sensors for hygenic, washdown environments

The QM26 is housed in a non-toxic 316L stainless steel housing, and can survive high pressure washdowns and temperature cycling, ranging from -30 C to 60 C. The sensor is Ecolab certified for inexhaustible sensor life in chemically cleaned environments and is intended for splash zone areas. The QM26 also features side-mounting for quick set-up and installation.


The QMH26 is designed with minimal grooves and crevices, leaving no room for bacteria to hide and multiply. It is self-draining for clean-in-place (CIP) applications. The sensor’s hygienic mounting shape reduces contamination risk, making it a suitable sensor to place in contact zones.

CNCs offer predictive, preventive maintenance tools for motors

Fanuc's Series 30i/31i/32i-Model B CNCs offer predictive and preventative maintenance tools for motors and fans. Fanuc can judge when the fan will fail through monitoring tools, enabling maintenance personnel to repair the problem at their convenience. CoFanuc FA America's Series 30i/31i/32i-Model B CNCs offer new predictive and preventive maintenance tools for motors and fans. This allows maintenance staff to pre-plan servicing of a machine during scheduled downtime rather than when a machine has failed. 


Fanuc amplifiers address predictive motor failures by checking the resistance of the windings. The greatest cause of servo motor failure is coolant infiltration into the motor. Coolant works its way into the machining process and deteriorates the windings until a short circuit occurs. Fanuc's amplifiers are now able to record the winding resistance and predict when the motor will fail. This allows maintenance personnel to order a motor in advance and change the motor when it is convenient for them, not at an inconvenient time when the machine is down. 


The ability to monitor the speed of each fan in the amplifier and the CNC can prevent a failure. On the CNC and servo amplifiers that are contained within the magnetics cabinet, heat is the largest cause of failure. Fanuc uses cooling fans to cool electronic components. A failure of the cooling fan can cause a failure of the CNC. By monitoring the speed of each fan that is in the CNC and amplifier, Fanuc is able to judge when the fan will fail enabling maintenance personnel to do maintenance at their convenience.

Two wiring methods minimize wiring time and make possible one-touch attachment and removal. Easy to view LED indicators allow users to quickly check switch status from any direction. D4SL-N safety switches deliver a minimum of 1 million operations and boast a minimum key holding force of 1300 N to maximize the range of potential applications that can benefit from a tough, compact safety switch.


D4SL-N switches are available with two types of wiring. Connector-type wiring models feature a connector cable that reduces the potential for mis-wiring, facilitates fast maintenance, and allows easy switch replacement in the event a switch is damaged. Terminal block-type models include a detachable terminal block to significantly increase wiring efficiency. 


6-contact versions of the D4SL-N safety switch enable users to independently monitor door open/closed status, as well as solenoid on/off status, from a single switch. An optional slide key prevents workers from becoming trapped inside the hazardous area, without having to use a padlock.

IP67 GigE cameras

The GigE uEye RE with PoE is perfectly suited for harsh industrial environments with features such as a lockable, dust-tight, spray- and water-resistant M12 circular connector that conforms to IP67, and optically decoupled digital I/Os, as well as two general Purpose I/Os. The camera also offers M5 mounting holes on all sides for flexible positioning, along with an I2C bus for triggering peripheral devices. Virtual remote monitoring solution

The Virtual Support Engineer service from Rockwell Automation is a scalable, remote-monitoring solution. It provides proactive, IT-friendly access that allows OEMs to identify and resolve technical issues, proactively perform scheduled and preventive maintenance, and monitor their installed base of machinery to help optimize machine performance.

Using the Virtual Support Engineer service, OEMs access their assets in a highly secure environment. While most other user solutions on the market transfer data bidirectionally through a firewall, the Virtual Support Engineer service relies exclusively on IT-approved outbound communication. This helps prevent computer viruses, worms or other digital threats tied to inbound data transfer. Security is further enhanced with added features, such as recorded logins, thorough audit trails, video recording and the ability for the end user to be given the rights to grant access on demand.

OEMs using the Virtual Support Engineer service receive access to real-time alarming capabilities that can be delivered via text message or email, to themselves, their customer or a Rockwell Automation remote-support application engineer. Through the system, OEMs use a simple graphical interface to configure alarms for key tags and performance indicators, allowing for quick response to issues and proactive prevention. Alarm capabilities also can indicate potential for future equipment failures, allowing OEMs to make proactive adjustments prior to catastrophic failure – all without travelling on-site to their customer’s facility. Access to machinery alarm data and analytics information also can help inform future performance enhancements to machinery.

In emergency situations, the Virtual Support Engineer service proactively notifies OEMs when equipment goes down. The system sends a constant signal to the Rockwell Automation Service Center indicating a machine’s online status, even in the connection is lost.
